Explosions

Went to explosions at Glasgow Green last night. As I said the bad people who have a mortgage on T.E.P.'s soul wouldn't let him not work but I went anyway. I have to say it isn't quite the same without "oooh-ing" company, but I think the main reason I didn't enjoy it as much as I might had more to do with the choice of music to which the fireworks were choreographed. Since the best fireworks music wouldn't necessarily have pleased the crowd (Hall Of The Mountain King at the Edinburgh fireworks concert, f'rexample) the good stuff was interspersed with some rather less than good stuff that I did not in fact recognise.

The highlights were Flash Gordon (which *so* works with explosions!), Live and Let Die, Barcelona (as the opening number), the can-can (dunno who wrote that - Offenbach?) and in general the ground-based part of the display. It's the first time I've ever been in a position to see the ground-based stuff at a big display from the right angle and it was really rather good - something that looked very much like anti-aircraft tracer fire in purple and gold, large fans shaped like peacock tails and whole clouds of exploding fairies*. Plus there was a laser display which was fairly well used.

On the whole not half bad. And my friend's cat S.A.F.E.W.A.Y. (can't remember what it stands for but it starts Stupid And Furry) eventually came back home at 0200. Given that he's a whole tom who doesn't often go out he may have had an assignation but it's much more likely he was hiding from the aerial bombardment that was the West End last night. Not that I'd accuse him to cowardice to his face, of course.

*I dare say this is not the proper name of the explosives but they're small, sparkly and move fast - therefore they look like fairies. Presumably a separate species from the ones that they make into Fairies' Blood tea at Tchai Ovna, since the tea doesn't explode.
