(no subject)

As previously noted today (yesterday, by now) was The Emperor Penguin's birthday. It was duly celebrated in style with his having a dental abscess and about two hours sleep as a result thereof. This did however give us a valid reason to spend the evening doing things other than dinner with T.E.P.'s mum - she is lovely but he does find their relationship a little stressful sometimes.

We went to see Serenity - it was indeed a very fun film. I shall have to watch Firefly at some point - and I may even relent and watch some Buffy (after seeing Serenity I can just about believe that I've been unlucky and only seen poor episodes). I was particularly taken with there being a competent bad guy - and more, one who was defeated mainly by the good guys being more competent and only a little piece of narratively convenient luck.

And then we went to the Thirteenth Note for some food - and found Erith, siani_hedgehog, edwardscissors, donald_says and aidan_skinner. Which made for an unexpectedly fun evening.

I win (sort of. A small local engagement, anyway)

Today I did not go home sick from work. It was very tempting indeed, since I felt pretty low in the morning. However my mood lifted eventually and I managed until the end. In the long run, I may need to take time off sick but in the short term (i.e. today) getting through the day is something I am pleased with.
